i have a 1988 olds ciera im putting a thermostat in.where ...

i have a 1988 olds ciera im putting a thermostat in.where does it go? which hose ?i do not think there is currently one on the car .i took off the top hose from the radiator and thought it went inside that hose.there isnt one in there though.is that where it goes?
