This is called deiseling when the car keeps running with the ignition off ,usually the cause is a combination of heat and ignition timing ,if you are running on old fuel it may cotibute to the problem ,first try turning the ignition timing back 3-4 degrees,(if its at 10 turn back to6-7)if thats not helping then you may want to try a cooler thermostat.

the wrench has aspecial angle to it you can buy one that has a different size on each end.one size is1/2 inch the other is 9/16 ,one or the other will fit .this tool will work on all 60 -late 70 american engines.a timing light will come with some instuctions ,you should be able to get theese at an auto parts store ,they will help you select the proper tools.price them than you can make a decision ,i have to sign off for a while so let me know what you would like to do and i will check back with you.

you will only need to connect the light to # 1 cylinder, front of engine drivers side.disconnect vac hose that is attached to distrbutor and plug the hose .start the engine and make sure it is warmed up .engine should be at idle .timing light should be blinking.point the light down at the front of the engine.the bottom pulley is the crankshaft in this front pulley is a notch or slot .it indicates the top of cylinder # 1 .Attached to the cover behind it on the drivers side is a tab with lines and numbers on it this is your timing index.there may be dirt on these parts ,if so stop engine and clean off .the mark should be at the 6 mark on the index this is factory spec.if it is at a number higher than that ,loosen bolt at base of distributor and turn the distributor. dont need to turn very much !!!set your mark at 6 .and retighten distributor lock bolt and recheck mark with light.thats all.may i take amoment to remind you that your original question has been answered as well as this info.i cannot post anymore for you .please accept this info, thank you ,Marc
