You have a bad TCC solenoid. what's haooening is that it's staying in overdrive and not releasing whhen coming to a stop. You will need to take it to a trans shop to replace the solenoid but in the meantime you can unplug it. Open the hood and look down at the transmission and you should see a multi wire plug. It's usually either round or square. Just unplug it anyou can can drive without overdrive but don't do this long term or it can do some eventual damage.

Reply to Hammer Time's Post: Yes. On Thursday I brought it in to a local Transmission shop. The guy there said I have a 4 speed transmission, for which the TCC does not come into play in 1st gear. he said if it was a 3 speed transmission, that would be the fix. But yes, I pulled the correct plug. It's getting worse- I was stuck in traffic Thursday afternoon for about 20 minues, and it stalled over 8 times. I had to keep putting the car in neutral, which seemed to alleviate it. This is why I wondered if I did in fact pull the wrong plug, hence my stopping at Tranny shop. I do thank you for the quick response. I need to get this fixed, as it's my second car which I use for work. Any more ideas would be grateful.

Reply to Hammer Time's Post: Yes, I do have the symptoms you had mentioned earlier- at a stop with car in gear, car feels as if it wants to go- kinda like keeping foot on brake and releasing clutch (if manual tranny). And that happens if it does not stall first. Symptoms worse if car warm. I will check for vacuum leaks and will look at cleaning the throttle body. I'm a rookie backyard mechanic, soo...
