I have a 2000 Chey Malibu . I just had to rebuild the engine becuse water leaked into the crankcase and ruined the bearigs. Is this a problem typical of this model? Will it be repeated? If so, after about about how many miles? Should I sell the car while it is running?

If you didn't drive the car a long time with coolant in the oil you will be fine.So since you are the only person with this info I would suggest dumping the car. This is of course my opinion and other mechanics may not feel the same way.The bearings going bad tells me that the coolant was in the oil for an extended period.I don't care how you pay but would appreciate if you do.If you have more questions please ask,I always help everyone as much as possible.

I used to own a 62 Cadillac and the engine went bad every 40,000 miles.

If they used the updated intake gaskets there shouldn't be another failure. If there was it would way up in mileage.I've never had a repeat failure using the new gaskets yet.So I would say at least 80,000 miles. The problem isn't the Malibu it's the v-6 engine intake gaskets.
