Question

Collectors of used nascar tires

Sent to Car Experts May 01, 2006 9:29 p.m.

We had a friend go to the 1998 Daytona 500. He bought a tire off of Dale Earnhardts car that year and had it shipped back to his house. When he got married he gave this tire to my husband. We know that Earnhardt won the race in 1998 and later died at that same track. We are now wanting to sell the tire and are wondering about how much we could receive for the tire if we were to sell it. It has the original markings from the pit crew. It is the front right tire. We have learned information the good year keeps record of every serial number on their tires and whom they have sold them to specific nascar racers and races so this tire can be authenticated.

you might be amazed if you put it on e-bay I would try it and set the reserve at the price you think it is worth

I understand that I can put it on e-bay but I was wondering how much I should ask for the tire.

Honestly, because of what car the tire came from, I'd put it on eBay with a starting bid of $2000 & I'd expect to get anywhere from that up to as high as $20,000 if the right person is looking at the right time.

I'd absolutely love to have that tire for myself but I know I dont have close to enough disposable funds laying around as some of the eBay shoppers. Especially a collector.

BTW, didn't a helmet recently go for around $50,000 on eBay?

Keep in touch & let me know what you decide to do & what you get for it, I'm really curious. dave@dashratkustoms.com
