I have a Pont. Grand Prix 2002 and the add coolant

I have a Pont. Grand Prix 2002 and the add coolant light comes on when you starte the car and stays on until engine reaches about 1/4 up on gage and it goes off. The car has never over heated and I check the coolant and it at the right mark.
