My 1993 Olds 98 with 150,000 miles, V6. Last Fall I parked it for the winter and at the time, it ran fine, though the exhaust came apart at a seam between the converter and the exhaust manifold during my last trip home. A few weeks ago I went to start it and the battery was completely dead. Put in a new battery (it turns over fine) but the heater fan motor runs constantly even with the "key off". And there is no spark. I looked into it and it was suggested that the "coolant temp. sensor" could be bad? The guy asked me to jumper it's plug. Just 1 wire going in, I did jump it but not sure if I jumpered it right being just 1 wire, the fan continued to stay on with the key off. I also read that the GEM sensor could get water on it and it kicks on the fan. This makes sense with the vehicle just sitting outside all winter draining the battery when the fan kicked on without my knowledge. I have no idea where the GEM is located. Likely under dash? Also read maybe the blower high speed relay or the thermostat is bad but don't know why there wouldn't still be spark? Can you help me on this one?

hello!

you mention several different problems, which all seem to be unrelated.

(1) the exhaust problem is probably unrelated to the battery problem, and these 2 are probably separate from the heater fan problem, which is a separate issue from the no-spark problem.

(2) Your vehicle does not have a GEM module; a GEM module is a body control module that is only found on Ford products. Sounds like youa re getting bad advice from someone...

(3) The coolant temperature sensor on your car has 2 wires; whatever component youa re jumpering with one wire is not the coolant temperature sensor.

(4) None of the above mentioned problems will result in a no-spark condition...

Which one of these problems are you requesting help with; the fan problem, the spark problem, or the exhaust issue? Also, what kind of test equipment or tools do you have available to work with in searching for the cause of the problem?

Reply to Steve7654's Post: I am back finally. I guess lets look at the fan motor blower that stays on even when the key is off. I have a hand-held tester.
