Question

I went to have my oil changed and they did not refill it ...

I went to have my oil changed and they did not refill it with oil before they let me drive off. I made it about a block and the engine locked up. The people from the oil change place came over and put oil in and it started but it clangs bangs and shakes the whole car. What could be wrong with it. It won't even hardly run and has no power.

Hello, Julie;

Sorry to have to tell you this, but your engine is destroyed. Even a couple seconds of running without oil is enough to do internal damage to an engine; if you drove it a block like this, that is far more than enough running to cause extensive damage to the crankshaft, bearings, cylinder walls, and valve train components. The cost of repairing the engine in your car correctly is more than the cost of installing a new one.

The good news is that the oil change place (or at least their liability insurance company) owes you a new engine at no charge; that is why we auto repair shops carry liability insurance. I would also insist on them paying for a rental car untill repairs are completed; most insurance companies cover this expense.

I hope this is helpful to you; if so, an accept would be most appreciated! Thanks!
