I have a 1998 Pon. G Am After battry was removed and charged    Car will not start, does not turn over, lights on dash do not go out as they normally would during ignition, all lights on dash remain on including THEFT SYSTEM LIGHT, son's car, not sure if this light should be on. Manually jumped post on solenoid, bendix turned but did not engage on fly wheel (probably not related to real problem). Son and friends jumped the car prior to battery removal and say it started and ran normal. They also removed and charged battery. This is where I came in. I have assured battery is charged. Oh son also said he had to wiggle and jerk on the Gear shift knob to release from park,, I assume nuetral switch is O.K. since a) park light is on, b) can not remove key until put back in park. Any help greatly appreciated. If its the theft system or ignition switch Please give as good of direction for repair/removal etc as possible. Thanks jeff

Optional Information:
1998 Pontiac Grand Am 2.4 ?

Already Tried:
not 100% sure but appears nuetral qwith ok observed dash lights no change during igniton, charged battery myself, jumped solenoid on starter, looked at ignition switch-- solenoid on bottom section where key goes does work but mildly hot to the touch,

I tested the purple wire as directed, with the clip to ground I probed the purple wire during ignition, there was no light.

Check the ignition switch fuse(60 amp) in the underhood fuse box it's probably blown from them jumping the car wrong. You may as well check them all while your in there. If the fuse is good(I doubt it)the ignition switch is bad.

Reply to Davo/diablo666's Post: The fuse is good   Now do you mean the switch as where you insert the key? or the ignition switch? How can I check it?

thanks Jeff

Dave, Jeff here again
I have limited time and help, thats why I take so long to test things you suggest.   At this point I have tested the stater (purple) wire and Neutral switch (large yellow) wire with no power at either during ignition. Since    I have jumped at starter ( small terminal jumped to large terminal) and it starts and runs, same thing if i jump large red wire and large yellow wire (separate plug connectors) on ignition switch. So I ask? Is the ignition switch bad?
