Question

Transmission vibration and wind noise

Sent to Car Experts April 02, 2006 3:57 p.m.

Subject: 2002 Infiniti G20 Manual transmission
1. There is high velocity vibration carried through to the stick shift while traveling in all gears. Especially noticable at high speeds in 4th or 5th gear. So much high velocity vibrabration that the accelerator pedal also carries this annoying problem. AT times, you can even hear the vibration.
Related to this problem???? when pulling off the gas pedal while in gear, it seems to have a vibrating engine noise... is this related to the vibration in the stickshift and accelerator pedal?

2. When traveling in the cold morning on the freeway, the wind noise seems more that I would expect from a quality car. I believe there is a wind leak in the drivers and passengers window front seals. It feels like cold air is leaking in from the front of the window seals. Infiniti's mechanic says there was nothing unusual found.

When riding with the mechanic, how could I prove the leaks existance. Blow out a match and see if smoke is blown from the area of concern?

Is this vehicle under warranty?

A noise such as you describe is usually caused by bearing failure. Could be a trans input shaft bearing or other trans bearing. Bearing failure is almost always caused by improper lubrication or shock load or overheating. ( also mostly due to improper lube)

As far as the window leaks go... do you have ANY LEAKAGE when washing the car or during rain?
If not then it will be difficult to get the window seals replaced under warranty.
