99Grand Am Power Steering
Sent to Car Experts March 26 04:32 PM

I have a 99 Pontiac Grand Am that makes a lot of noise when I turn the steering wheel. The steering became real hard. I checked the power steering fluid and it was real low. I added fluid and saw it leaking out underneath the car. I'm trying to decide if it is going to be too big of an expense to fix. Have you got any idea of the cost to fix this?

Optional Information:

This depends on where it is leaking from. If it is a power steering line or fitting leaking not too expensive, but if it is the steering rack leaking then it is in the range of 700-900 for repair from a dealer. What you need to do is see exactly where it is leaking from with a flashlight.

Here is a picture of a generic steering rack. If the rack is leaking it would normally be coming from where the yellow arrows are pointing on the picture below. The red arrow points towards the front of the car and I threw two crude tires onto the picture to help you out on spotting the location of steering rack and boots.
