temperature gauge goes up. goes down when heater fan is turned on

I drive the car on freeway 65 miles. Goes great for 10 or 20 minutes. Suddenly the engine temperature gauge quickly inches higher and higher. I turn on the heater full blas, open the windows to ventilate the car and the gauge goes nicely down. Starts again after a few minutes.

Already Tried:
My mechanic could not the gauge to go up???
