I have a 1991 Chevy Camaro RS with a 305ci. TBI. I drove the car the day before yesterday with no problems .Yesterday,it would not stay running. It has always started without touching the accelerator, but since it would not stay running I tried depressing the pedal to the floor while cranking it. It ran really rough for about 5 seconds then stalled after a backfire. I replaced the distributor cap, rotor and coil with no change. The coil pickup in the distributor has some corrosion on it, and I see no clip on it to remove it to test the module(as the Chilton's manual instructs.) It is getting fuel. Let it sit overnight thinking it may have become flooded and tried it this morning: no change.Spark from #1 plug wire is blue. Some black carbon exists in the tailpipe(but no proir smoking was evident) Seven contact points inside the new dist. cap have a tiny dot on them from the electricity and one brass contact is perfectly shiny.(One cyl. not firing?) New(and old) dist. caps do not have vents on them. Now that I think back, there was one episode about three weeks ago where, after starting it ran really rough shortly after leaving home and I put it in neutral and revved it up a bit and it smoothed out.Any suggestions or pointers with this condition (or the removal of the coil pick-up to test module) would be greatly appreciated!
