Sent to Car Experts March 06, 2006 8:08 a.m.

I have a 1998 Honda Accord Coupe with a v6 engine the car has 175000 miles and has been running perfect but the ABS and Check engine lights stay on well that is not my problem the problem is we had an ice storm and my car was parked in front of my house and when I tried to start it it just went click click click. The engine would not turn over. I tried to jump start it with my other 98 accord 4cyl but to no avail. I then tried to charge the battery with a Schumacher speed charge computer smart WM-6000A battery charger. It went click a few times and started and I ran it for about 10 minutes tested the alternator and it showed 130% the battery showed 14.3 amps when running and I shut it down and could not restart it. When I used the jump start 60amp feature the machine reset itself and did not maintain the charge and counted down and began charging. The battery shows 100% charged at 13.7 amps. The car will not start is it a short or is it the starter? If it is a short should I disconnect the battery and let the computer reset itself reconnect it and try again? or should I just change the starter? any help you can give me would be great my phone number is 570 504 7600 name is Neil and my email address is Customer (name blocked for privacy)@yahoo.com thank you.

REPLIED Check Mark

I would start by checking the connections at the battery and the starter. If the connections are ok then try tapping on the starter with a hammer while someone turns the kay to the start position. If the car starts replace the starter. If the car does not start you will need to check the voltage at the starter wires to make sure you have the correct amount there. First check the big wire it should have battery voltage. If it does check the little one with the key in the start position. If you have battery voltage replace the starter. If you don't have battery voltage at the big wire check for corrosion in the wire and connections all the way to the battery. If the small one does not have battery voltage try starting it in neutral you may have a transmission range sensor going bad, or possibly an ignition switch.

I have done this already this gives no help at all and there is no corrosion and it wont start and I did try going from neutral to park and it makes no difference it just clicks and the answer is of no help at all sorry. There is voltage in the big wire and the small one does not and it makes no difference.

I already said that the car started once if this is the case that the relay is bad how can it be intermittent and it did not start again your answer is incorrect as if the relay is bad then I would not have been able to start at all isnt that right? I removed the battery to charge it fully and allowed the computer to reset ny having no power to the computer for 24 hours and will try again later today and check the relay anyways to determine if your answer is valid.

Relist: I still need help.
I contacted Honda service and they told me that there is no relay for the starter in the fuse box only for the fuel pump and the mechanic who answered the question dont know what they are talking about. The answer that was given does not solve the problem and does not address the problem according the Ray Price Honda of Stroudsburg PA 18360.

the answer given is unacceptable because they told me to check the starter relay in the fuse box and gave me an exact location and told me what it was and Honda said that their answer is 100% wrong and there is no starter relay in the fuse box. The answer is comming from a Ford mechanic and not a Honda mechanic sorry I should not have to pay for a wrong answer.
