Auto problem

First the throttle was eradict when starting the car, it either was full or nothing at all. Then it started surging as I drove it. I was told to change the throttle positioning sensor.I change that and the plugs, plug wires, distributer cap, rotor and pcv valve. I then started the car and now it's missing severely and backfiring, when I put it into gear it dies. I made sure the firing order was correct and timing and they seem fine. I smell fuel really bad and plugs 2,3 & 4 seem to be getting moisture. Is there a sensor the controls the fuel amount? I,m lost.
