oil leaking from car

My son recently got a car but I noticed the oil light was on. We went to put oin in the unit and it just came right out of the bottom. I was told that there may be a hole in the oil pan and it needs to be replaced but someone else told me that it might be able to be sealed. Can you please help me. I don't have alot of money to pay for this and I was looking for estimates. I apprciate any input you could give. Thanks.
