Question

Quick back-yard repair advise

Sent to Car Experts February 28, 2006 11:26 a.m.

I have a 1985 Chevy Corvette with less than 40,000 original miles on it that I recently picked up. Since ... I have learned that the car was parked for a majority of its life ... neglected.

It seems to run fine, However, I am fighting a battle with corrosion due to old antifreeze. I have replaced the rotton heater core, and It has just sprung leaks that I assume are coming from frost expansion plugs (I have not actually seen them, but by the location of the drips, I dont believe it could be coming from anywhere else). I understand that the engine on this car is difficult to pull (this would be the correct way to fix the problem). I am seeking alternative methods to fix the problem. I have considered installing frost plugs inside the existing frost plugs (kind-of a back yard patch), and strong engine stop leak (I dont really like using this stuff as a fix). Do you have any other suggestions that could perhaps be better? I know this is a patch job, but I had hoped to put off pulling the engine just yet. ... Thanks

Al
