i have a 96 pontiac grand am my problem is it

i have a 96 pontiac grand am my problem is it wont start it turns over runs for a second or to then cuts off the theft system light comes on when the car dies could this be some sort of antitheft sensor and if so how do i fix it

1996 Pontiac grand am 2.4

Already Tried:
undid negative battery cable and pulled key cylender i believe the ignition has been changed to use a non chip key but im not sure im hoping you can tell me

i have a 96 pontiac grand am my problem is that it wont start it turns over runs a couple of seconds and dies i think that the ignition cylender has possibly been changed i also would like to know if this modles engine was equiped with an anti theft system the console light comes on with that icon when the car dies after trying to start can any of the sencors been by-passed
