One day I was sitting with the car idling and the heater on. A sound came from under the hood much like a very quick thudding sound and the thermometer raced up to HOT. I turned the engine off quickly and waited about 10 minutes and then started it right up with no sound and no problem. Until this morning. I had the heat on but nothing warm came out only cold and after about a 5 minute drive I heard the same noise and the thermometer on the dash again shot up to HOT. I turned off the engine. There was nothing leaking and no smoke or odor of any kind. Do you think it is my thermostat? It is a 2003 Grand Prix SE. HELP!
