I have a 1997 Crown Victoria and everytime I put the car in drive it dies unless I give it gas. I had the IAC valve replaced and the same thing happens. The mechanic told me the computer has to relearn the part before it runs right. How long does the relearning process take?

Optional Information:
1997 Ford CROWN VICTORIA 4.6L

Already Tried:
I replaced the IAC valve, new fuel filter

It happens sometimes when I put it in reverse but not all the time. Its been two days since the new IAC valve was put on.

Well it can be many things. Without knowing any codes or fuel pressure readings, there are a couple of things possible.

The wires going to the IAC might have a problem.

Could have a bad IAC

Might be an obstruction in the air flow

Might have an EGR problem

MAF Mass Air Flow sensor

I just wish I knew more with codes, etc.

I think you need to take it back to the place who diag and installed it.

Thanks
