I have a 2000 Chevy Cavalier with 55,000 miles. Had an oil change last week and have been traveling 78miles to New Orleans and 78 mile home daily. I have been buying gas at a station in New Orleans and recently have had some hesitation on the highway. Last night I had my foot on the accelerator going 75mph and I can feel the car slowing down but the speedometor still read 75mph so I pulled over to the side put the car in park and the engine shut off. I could not restart the engine so I turned it off and waited 10minutes then the engine started ok and I made it home. I could still feel this jecking or pulling like the car was trying to catch up with the speed I was going. HELP! Some one said I need the spark plugs changed but the owners manual said at 100,000 miles.Optional Information: 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier 2.2LAlready Tried: Lucas gas treatment

I would replace the fuel filter and check the spark plugs and the plug wires.Thats a fairly long commute I would consider changing the wires and plugs actually.Check your air filter also and make sure nothing was left disconnected from the oil change.

Thanks you very much for your advise. My neighbor changed the spark plugs in 15 minutes and found oil from the gasket, that needs to be replaced, had entered the space where the spark plugs were located. The car runs beautifully now and he will replace the gasket nexts week. I will use your services in the futre. Thanks again!!

If the wires have oil on them I would change them also. After the gasket is repaired.
