I have a question about a chevy nova '88....what is the problem when my car made a hard jerk after a whirring noise came from what seems like the front, left tire? what is the problem with my car when after the whirring noise and hard jerk, my car started jerking really hard over and over and a grinding noise made my car jerk to a halt like the tire is trying to spin but no power and sounds like metal grinding?

Optional Information:

Sounds like your CV joint has went bad or possibaly the wheel bearing.I'm thinking your CV joint though. You can replace what is called a Half-shaft and you can pick one up at your local parts store.

Reply to john's Post: that makes sense....before this happened today, i had a spare tire donut on it for a couple of days and the metal grinding noise was constant while driving but seemed to subside after about 60 mph...it was making a "scrape-uh scrape-uh" noise. it did not, however, make that noise while turning right though. the noise was worse when turning to the left, and the grinding of the malfunctioning area felt like it was keeping my tire from spinning sorta like stopping the tire for brief moments and causing my car to jerk. any other input would be helpful. thanks.
