Every time I start my car it won't hold idle. RPMs will just drop until the engine doesn't run anymore. There is a winding noise, I know its belts rubbing together. The spool on my alternator has friction with the housing or something else, I don't know what it is. A car will hold idle if the alternator is inoperable, right? If not, what could be causing the car not to hold idle, it is an 1987 Acura Legend 2.5 liter V6. Would replacing the alternator fix the problem?
