i have a honda civic hatchback during a steady rain it
Sent to Car Experts January 10 10:19 AM

I have a 1991 Honda Civic Hatchback. During a steady rain, it's leak from up under the dashboard, sometimes on the driver's side, sometimes on the passenger side. I have completely sealed around the windshield and cowling, but it still leaks. Where is this annoying leak coming from?Optional Information: 1991 Honda Civic 1.5 L 4-cyl.Already Tried: I have sealed all around the windshield and cowl. I have looked up under the dashboard and shined a light under there to see if I can detect any light from the engine compartment. The driver side floor board has had a good 1/2" of water laying there. I would guess that the source of the leak is sizeable based on the amount of water that accumulates.

i would remove floor mats and carpet and go to the local pressure washer and have somebody pressure wash fire wall while you watch inside to find leak!!

Reply to bill wanamaker's Post: I don't believe the leak is coming from the firewall. I get water inside my car when it is just sitting out in a steady rain. If it's a light rain, I don't seem to get the leak. I have sealed completely all around the windshield and cowl. It's driving me nuts trying to figure out where this leak is coming from. I'm thinking it has to be something obvious. I simply get too much water inside the car after a steady rain.

Reply to bill wanamaker's Post: No, I don't have a sunroof. Last night, we had a torrential downpour in northwest NJ. I went out and laid a piece of clear plastic across the windshield, cowl and a portion of the hood. The plastic covered from just above the windshield to the center of the hood. I didn't get one drop of water in the car this morning when I went to work. The piece of plastic was gone from the high winds we had afterwards, but no water. This would indicate that the water is finding its way in from the windshield or cowl. I'm thinking it's more from the cowl. I've got to believe that someone out there has experienced the same condition with thier Honda Civic as I have. I don't believe I'm an isolated incident. What do you think?

Relist: I still need help.
I certainly appreciate the responses I received, but I found that none of the answers really applied to me. For example, I don't have a sunroof, I've already completely sealed all around the windshield and cowl, but I still get water dripping in on the floorboards. I still don't know why. There has to be a logical reason for this problem.
