Hello!!! I am experiencing problems with the starting charging/system in a 1991 Volvo 740GL. This is a manual, 5 speed. (I learned that for the best starting behavior, I would have to put the car in gear and hold the clutch petal down.) Initially, the battery was being drained. I have an alarm system in the car. (I am the third owner and did not use the alarm.) The alarm's indicator lights were blinking when the car was off. Also, when the car would be started, the starter would continue to turn even after the key was taken out of the ignition. The alternator was tested, found not working, and was replaced. Also a brand new battery was installed. I drove the car last night- no problem. Today, I went to turn over the motor, got the starter "roll-over and over" again and then burning smell under the hood close to the drivers floor. Upon inspection, the battery positive cable was red hot and melting the plastic covering.... Please help and advise... Thanks so much!Optional Information: 1991 Volvo 740GL Already Tried: cutting the alarm wires, replacing the alternator and battery
