Question

my car makes a clicking noise that sounds like is coming

Sent to Car Experts January 03, 2006 1:27 p.m.

My car makes a clicking noise that sounds like is coming from either the valves or from the fuel injectors, and continues to click when the car drives, what could this be from? Also, when I engage the car into reverse, as i'm backing up, it sounds as if i'm crushing a can and I can feel a grind that sounds like it is coming from the axles, do you know what this could be?

Optional Information:
1996 Mitsubishi eclipse gst 2.0 liter/turbo

Already Tried:
not much. i'm not really that mechanically inclined, my brother suggests what i have explained. i have tried a diagnostic scan tool, nothing bad came up at that time. i think it's more of a mechanical problem.

ACCEPTED Check Mark

It sounds like you are describing lifter noise to me.You need to check your oil pressure with a gauge and leave the gauge on until the engine is hot.Running at idle for 45 minutes will probably do it.It sounds like you have low oil pressure and may need a oil pump.Be adavised up front even if this is the case the noise may remain from wear caused by the low oil pressure. The lifters or cam etc could be damaged.

I checked the oil level yesturday and noticed that the oil level was really low! I don't understand how this happened as I just had a oil change done to the car, and there are no obvious leaks. I made sure I was using the correct motor oil, and I was. Now the clicking noise is minimal, but it is still there, mostly when i start the car(maybe lifters or cam have some wear as you stated) Also, did you have a recommendation regarding my comment about when i engage reverse and my car makes a grinding noise?(like a can being crushed). It sounds as if it is coming from the axle maybe!
