have a mercedes sdl with miles the electrical system

have a 1987 mercedes 300sdl with 194,000 miles    the electrical system has a short or something because when you turn the radio on the lights go out and when you open the drivers side door they come on, when you push the button on the inside frame of the door they also go out, then you open the door and they come on can you give us an indecation where the problem could be

no accident, but we did have trouble with the ignition switch locking up and wouldn't let you turn it on. we took it to the mechanics and he told us to leave the key in and when we shut it off to turn the wheels to the left or right before shutting it off. we also took it to the mechanic about the electrical problem and he found a bad transister and thought that was the problem but it is still doing it.

It has to be somewhere inthe same circuit as the radio. Find the fuse for the radio and check everything on that circuit. Start by unpluging the radio and tracing the wiring and look for damages. Also wiggle the harness that goes from the car to the doors and see if you get a response. You could have a wire that is making contact with some speaker wires and causing this as well. If you have any speakers that are not working then that would be a good place to start.
