91 nissam maxima i was driving this car and it felt like it ...

91 nissam maxima i was driving this car and it felt like it popped out of gear and would not go anywhere the shifter has no resistence like its not hooked up but i checked it and the cable and linkage on the transmission are moving and when you move it you can hear relays clicking no previous problems no slipping etc.. is there a linkage that may have come off inside the top pan of the transmission?
