I have a 1998 Ford Tarus. The other morning I cranked it up and put it into reverse with no problem. I needed to get something out of another vehicle and I put the car into park and turned the motor off. I got back into the car and started it up but when I put the car into reverse it did nothing. I can put the car into any gear and nothing happens, the car will not go forward or into reverse. There was no warning that anything was wrong. What can cause a transmission not to engage into any gear?

Optional Information:
1998 Ford Tarus 3 Liter V-6

Already Tried:
Nothing except to check the fuses.

Have you checked your fluid? Does your gear shift feel normal or does it move real easy,if so your linkage may have came unhooked.Start it up and check your transmission fluid first.Do you hear any funny noises when you put it in gear while turning the steering wheel?
