I think your on the right track with the vaccum leak idea. But for grins check and make sure the throttle plate is not stuck open. sounds silly but its usaully the small details that people miss. If it is realy ideling that high, and the throttle is not open, U have a major vaccum leak. It should be easy to spot just listen for a hissing sound under the hood when the car is running.

thanks but I have already checked that and choke and throttle working properly.
More of my investigation when I found the blown head gasket the vehicle did run and idle normal. I think the other owners did something to the vehicle to keep it running for trade in purposes and hope know one detected the headgasket issue.

no but Im low on coolant and I read somewhere that also causes a high idle. What your theory?

I have heard that on some import cars if the coolant is low than the idle can be high. But 4000-5000 rpm is rediculous. U can try to fill the coolant and see if that helps. Start by taking the radiator cap off when the car is cold and bleeding the system. warm up the car while topping the coolant and letting it burp. The air bubbles need to come out the top were u fill the coolant (air rises). Good luck
