I own a 1992 Pontiac Grand Am. I took my car in for its 75,000 check up. Everything came out fine, except now I noticed with winter coming, each time I use the heater, there is a strong gas smell. What could cause that?

Optional Information:

Sounds like you have a slight gas leak in the under the hood area.Should be looked at very closely. Thanks John

Reply to john's Post: If that is true, how best to check? I have taken my vehicle to several places, no help. Don't if its because I am woman or the people are incompetent; but, I was told other ridiculous items (such as the problem is normal). I would like to try and more concrete information the next time I take it in. Please advise.

Also have catalytic converter checked.Too much back pressure can keep exhaust gasses in the engine compartment .Thanks John

Thanks again - will check. Just surprised that I have never had the problem before and all of sudden this occurs. I have not had a car accident or anything recently. In fact, just recently started a car pool and I drive it less than before.
