Question

I have a 1991 Honda Civic ex and the car has been stalling ...

I have a 1991 Honda Civic ex and the car has been stalling basically ever since I had the car. For some odd reason worse 6 months ago then now. I usually drive my car every single day to work or the store, etc. Well 6 months ago I went on vacation for a week and did not drive my car for a week and I got back home from my vacation and the car started stalling BAD. I got in the car and I was going 15 mph up my street where I live and the car would not go any faster than that and I was pushing way down on the gas peddle and it did not go above 15 mph. I dont know if it was because I didn't drive it for a while and it was warming up or what it was. After that insidence the car does not stall as bad, when I first start out the car stalls and after that it pops right into gear and does fine. What could the problem be? It does not do it all the time but it does it about once a week or so and thats it. It is better than it did 6 months ago when I left the car for a week and did not drive it and then It was real bad for a couple days after I got home and then it was fine. Oh I forgot to mention that once in a while when the car stalls that white smoke comes from the muffler and usually smoke does not come from the muffler at all. Not all the time it stalls smoke comes from the muffler but once in a while It does. I think I could have two different problems wrong with my car but Im not sure. I have asked a mechanic about my situation and they told me that It doesn't sound like the transmission because if that was it that it would allready gone out. I am getting trouble getting help with my car because It is a problem that is not continuous, and its a problem that is hard to diagnose because it only stalls once a week or sometimes less then that. So it has been hard for anyone to look at my car because I guess It is one of those hidden things where the car has to be acting up as someone is looking at it. Any suggestions would really help? I will pay you as soon as I hear frpm you. Thanks, Brandy
