in my 1998 Ford Explorer, the A/c is working but the heat is not. What could the problem be? How much will it cost (average) to get it fixed by a mechanic?

REPLIED Check Mark

First feel both heater hoses as the go through the firewall and make sure they are both equally hot. If they are, then you may have a problem with the blend door in the HVAC box. That door controls temerature and is operated by an electric motor that may be bad.

The entire dash will have to be removed to access it.

ACCEPTED Check Mark

You first need to confirm what may be wrong with it. If it turns out to be the blend door motor, that will be quite expensive as the entire dash will have to be removed. A wild guess would be around $600.
