Question

97 honda civic dx, The noise sounds like valve rockers ...

Sent to Car Experts October 12, 2005 5:01 p.m.

97 honda civic dx, The noise sounds like valve rockers but i have checked the gaps and all exhaust and intakes are at factory specs of .007 . oil changes are up to date with 5w-30. I ran the engine up to temp and listened while someone used different rpms and from my inspections I think i heard it comming from around the timming belt or alt area lower in the engine comp. near the belt area. its a light tapping noise compared to a screw driver being lightly tapped against a wood table.
what is your suggestion with my problem? thanks

how many miles? Is the timing belt new? Have you tried taking off the belt to each accessory (Alt, a/c, ps) to see if the noise goes away? An alternator with a communtator problem could create a light ticking noise that would travel into the belt area. So could a bad bearing on the a/c clutch... Let me know
