My car was running fine I was turning the air on and off. I have a 1996 Toyota 4 Runner. I had a new radiator put in. Before I had that put in There was a leak in it and there were spot welds on the old radiator. The car would jolt when excelling between 55-60. I put a new radiator in it and it ran fine . I was driving around and it jolted tonight between 5560. I noticed the Rpms are shooting up quite high. i thought it was low on coolant but the coolant bottle is full. The trannsmission fluid is reading at the Dexron II. Do i have to drain my radiator fluid or what do you think is going on . The car was not running hot.

Sounds like a different problem with either the ignition or fuel system.Sounds more like an igntion problem. Inspect the spark plug wires and cap if still equipped. Pull the spark plugs and check for any green tint on the plugs to indicate a possible headgasket problem. As long as it didnt run hot, it should be ok. Depends more on if it is a 4 or 6 cylinder, but I would check the basic maintenance. May be just a spark plug wire shorting out at high rpm's.

Reply to Gene's Post: Ok My radiator is about a year old. The cap is hot and around the radiator is hot. Do you think the fluid in radiator is just old and needs to be flushed and new fluid put in it. I dont know if it has anything to do with the ignition. I think The fluid is dirty and not running through the valves cleanly and is getting slightly clogged at higher speeds could this be my problem
