1988 MERCEDES 260E WHILE DRIVING IT FAST OR SLOW SOMETIMES ...

Sent to Car Experts October 03, 2005 9:07 p.m.

1988 MERCEDES 260E WHILE DRIVING IT FAST OR SLOW SOMETIMES THE ENGINE JUST DIES. WHEN THE CAR FINALLY STOPS, I TURN THE KEY OFF AND TRY TO RESTART. AFTER A 2 OR 3 TRIES IT FINALLY STARTS AGAIN. THE DEALER REPAIR SHOP SAID COULD,NT PIN POINT PROBLEM SPECIFICALLY, BUT DISTRIBUTOR CAP & ROTOR, PLUGS ARE WORE DOWN. COULD THIS CAUSE THIS TO BE HAPENNING. $600 REPAIR BILL, DONT WANT TO PAY IF THIS DONT FIX THE PROBLEM, AND COULD THIS BE THE TIMING BELT OR FUELFILTER GOING OUT. COULD THE DISTRIBUTOR AND ROTOR BE LOSING CONECTION FROM TIME TO TIME CAUSING THE CAR TO DIE? HAVE'NT HAD ANY OTHER ENGINE RUNNING PROBLEMS, JUST THIS NAGGIN ONE. I KINDA WISH THE PROBLEM WOULD JUST HAPPEN FOR GOOD, SO I CAN PINPOINT THE PROBLEM AND FIX IT. INSTEAD OF EVERY OTHER DAY OR SO INCONSISTANTLY. THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY!
