How are the drive shaft/half axle and the hub assembly related? Could a problem with one cause a problem with the other?

REPLIED Check Mark

Yes,The drive shaft is what transfers motion to the hub.The splined end of the shaft goes into and through the splined hole in the hub and is fastened with a nut and washers. What problem are you having?

I recently had the half axle replaced, and afterwards the car hesitated while accellerating (between 30-50mph). When I took it in again, they said it was the alignment. The very next day, we heard a loud, metallic popping noise, and basically couldn't drive further. The next mechanic said that the hub assembly caused that last break down. Could the need to replace the hub assembly be due to something going wrong when the axle was replaced?

ACCEPTED Check Mark

It sounds like the shaft was installed improperly(not seated in transaxle)or Not fastened properly at the hub.Just a guess. They may have replaced the axle when the hub was the problem all along.Alignments don't really have much to do with hesitating to answer the other statement you made. The popping noise after an axle shaft being replaced definately sounds like it was not installed properly. If this answers your question click ACCEPT.Michael.
