I have a 2005 Honda Pilot with 9,000 miles. Last week as I pulled off the freeway, it started choking and it stalled at the top of the off ramp. Going down the street, it stalled at every stoplight for about 2 miles. I was able to sputter it into a parking lot and call auto club for a tow. The Honda dealer has told me that the fuel injectors, fuel pump and fuel filter need to be replaced because the fuel was contaminated and ruined everything.
There was less than a full tank of gasoline in the car when it was brought in and I only buy Mobil or Unocal gasoline from local gas stations. The dealer said that this will not fall under the covered warranty due to the fuel contamination. I want them to prove to me that the fuel is contaminated. They said they can't do that because they feel that what ever contanimated the fuel has already passed through the filter, pump and injectors so there isn't any reason to drain the gas tank.
I feel that someting went wrong with a part under the hood - either a fuel pump or filter or the injectors. Although Honda does not disagree with that - something is wrong with all those parts - they are blaming me for contaminated fuel saying that you never know what the gas stations are adding to their fuel these days. I think if there was something being added to the fuel, other cars would be having the same problem and it would be known to people in this small community. It is hard for me to believe that fuel contamination, although possible, is the ONLY explanation for this problem. They want to charge me $1500.00 for the repairs. What can you tell me about this? What else could this problem be due to? I am afraid to get the car back without them first emptying the gas tank. Who is to say that this will not happen again driving off the dealers premises? They tell me that the contamination may have already gone through the fuel lines and there is probably no contamination left. How can they be sure if they do not check the gas left over in the tank? Please let me know ASAP. I am still on the phone arguing with them this morning.
