My car knocks and shakes when I apply the brakes, what could be the problem?

If this is occuring only when you brake the most common cause is warped brake rotors/drums and/or damaged brake components e.g.,Calipers,wheel cyls,hardware.Do you feel this in the pedal or the steering wheel mostly?Also post the Year/Make/Model/Eng size and transmission type for more accurate answers.
