Hi, I have a 1967 Mustang Convertible. The headlights go on and off (no dimming.. just on and off). Should I replace the switch?

Do you mean they are going on and off by themselves or that the switch is controlling them and you have no high ot low beam?

Thanks for your reply!

They go on and off on their own. (needless to say it was a bit scary coming home from a car show last night:) Maybe about 5 second intervals between on and off.. longer duration when idle at a stop light.

I have the repair manual.. however am a total novice. It really doesn't look like a battery thing because there's no dimming.. and all of the other lights work (instrument cluster, turn signals, rear lights, etc.) When the headlights come on, they are bright.

Also, they go on and off while in both normal and high beam.

Thanks again!

ACCEPTED Check Mark

Your going to have to do some electrical testing to track that down. One thing I would look at right away is the plug on the headlight switch. Over the years, the connection can deteriorate and the plug can melt and in some cases, start a fire. Ford recalled a whole bunch of vehicles for just that problem. Look at the plug and see if there is a melting. Grab in and squeeze it tighter onto the switch with the headlights on and see if you get any reaction from the headlights.
