Sent to Car Experts September 17 09:30 AM

I have aSaturn 2000 LS2. When in stop and go traffic the engine light comes on and I get a thunk when the car shifts. If I turn the car off for awhile the light goes off and the car shifts ok. Whats wrong???????

Check Engine Light

That is a warning light that comes on if the computerized engine control system detects an engine performance or emissions problem. Also called the "malfunction indicator lamp" (MIL). To determine the nature of the problem, the computer system must be accessed to read the codes that are stored in them.

Then the code is used to execute the repairs needed.

you can get your codes read free at autozone free, but don't buy anything yet as the counter guys at autozone are parts guys not mechanics. Post the codes back here (in the order they were retrieved) then we can help you with your problem.

After retreiving the codes post them back here and we can advise you as to the steps that should be taken.

Thanks Marc

That light will go on for drivetrain faults also.

First thing to do is get the codes if the thunk comes and goes it should be taken care of before it becomes a problem and find the cause is the first step.

Any more questions please post back.

Thanks Marc
