Question

idle light engine nissan

Sent to Car Experts September 17, 2005 1:53 a.m.

I HAVE A 2002 NISSAN ALTIMA 3.5 V6. ONE DAY I TOOK THE THROTTLE BODY INTAKE OFF AND SPRAYED THE INSIDE WITH S.T.P THROTTLE BODY CLEANER,EVER SINCE MY "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" LIGHT WON'T GO OFF AND THE IDLE STAYS ABOVE 1000 RPM. I EVEN SCANNED WITH A OBDII SCANNER AND RESETTED IT BUT NOTHING SEEMS TO WORK. WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS?

The code wasn't much help. It just states the idle is too high.

The problem soarted when you removed the throttle body. Something you did triggered this. You may have damaged the gasket or put it wrong. Your getting unmetered air introduced into the intake somewhere. You need to just look it over again for any vacuum leaks.

I have already done so starting with air cleaning every hose making sure none are loose. after i blew compressed air into a hose going from Air Intake to the EVAP sensor, the RPM has gotten a bit lower but not to the Normal level including the Service Engine Soon light is still on,i was thinking that a simple tune-up might do such as spark plugs, fuel filter, wires might do. I would really appreciate any advice besides what it could be,but what can i do to fix it. After all the car is only 3 years old and is running the Nissan Altima 1st V6.Reply is expected.

Thank You Very Much,

Sincerely,
Nikolay P.

O yeah, by the way the Throttle Body was never removed. The Air Intake was taken off the Throttle Body to gain access to the Plates and   air passages to remove the Good old gum and nasty build-up.
