Question

car battery

Sent to Car Experts September 10, 2005 8:33 a.m.

the battery in my car was not filled with water at the last car service. As a result the battery died. I put water in it, charged the battery and put it back in the car. It cranked fine. 2 hours later I went back and the car wouldn't start. I tried jumper cables to no avail. Then I bought a new battery. Put it in, cleaned the cables and it won't start. Did something short out?

ACCEPTED Check Mark

Look in the main fuse box under the hood you will find a 60 amp fuse I suspect you will find that fuse to be blown.

Check all the fuses to make sure that others did not blow.

The best way to check fuses is with a 12 volt test light, connect the alligator clip to a ground or the negative post of the battery and touch the pointed end to the exposed metal lug of the fuse (there are are two of these on each fuse) Both lugs should light the test light,if only one side of fuse lights test light fuse is bad.

You can also check a fuse by looking at it closely to see if the wire going thru the center of it has burnt out. Although this method is not fool proof.

Marc, God bless you and thank you so much for helping me. I tried to pay $25, but it wouldn't let me enter more. I have to admit I wasn't sure if anyone would answer me so I typed in $5 to begin with. You have been an angel to me and I hope you have a blessed day :)
