Car not starting
Sent to Car Experts September 05 07:39 PM

Car not starting. Sometimes it starts and other times it don't. I have replaced the battery, fule filter,& starter. Also had some hose, tubbings replaced or tighten. It has been in the shop twice for this problem. First shop said they could not find out why the " check engine " light was on. They did what they could and said it would not leave us on the side of the road. That's not true. Second shop Firestone, they have been doing just what I ask. Replacing the fule filter and starter. Where do I go from here? Please don't mention going to Autozone for the computer codes. I did try that, the testing is good only for 96 and newer. The check engine light is for the emission stuff on the car. It did pass emissions. I'm wondering if the check engine light and the not starting is 2 different problems. I'm not sure where to go next to clear this up.

Reply to Tim's Post: Tim, I do have an Advance Auto Parts. Problem is the car is not dependable. I never know when it will stop. Where I go my poor mother has to go.
I'm her caregiver, a walker & oxygen.
The main reason I have been asking questions. The first shop I took it to, I just said " the car won't start " 1100.00 later I still have a car that sometimes don't start. They changed my battery and a few hoses, had the car for 6 days.
From there forward, I have been saying change fule filter, starter. I need to be informed. I need better information.

First off, Does the car crank over when you try to start it?(Makes noise but does not start) If the engine does not crank, look for a wiring or ignition switch problem. If it cranks but will not start after it is hot, look to the ignition module. These have a high failure rate on Fords. If it is getting spark, listen for the fuel pump to run for about 2 seconds when ignition is turned to the "on" position. If you do not hear a faint humming sound, check the fuel pump relay, inertia awitch and the fuel pump.

Thank You Tom. This gives me a direction to start looking. You hear the battery click and then nothing. I'm starting to think I'm going to replace the engine over time, by replacing part by part.
