Need help with 1996 Ford Escort overheating

Sent to Car Experts August 31, 2005 9:42 p.m.

I own a Ford Escort 1.9l 1996, with 113,596 miles. Check engine light was on so I hooked it up to a computer and it came up with bad EVAP Purge Valve. So I replaced it with the Chiltons guide. Did everything by book. Now my car overheats, boils over w/coolant. I noticed the fan wasnt kicking in, so I opened the radiator cap and ran the engine. It didnt decrease it spilled out of the radiator top. Heard that wasnt normal and it was supposed to decrease. P.s. coolant fluid was filled to top on radiator. Resevoir was low due to boil overs. Filled resevoir but it still boiled over. Live in AZ so very hot have AC on all the time. Noticed if I turn AC off and turn heat on temp goes down. Any thoughts would be very helpfull dont have enough to bring it in to shop right now. Thanks-Customer (name blocked for privacy)@gmail.com or Customer (name blocked for privacy)@yahoo.com
