Camshaft position sensor
Sent to Car Experts August 30 08:04 PM

I got an error code on my 97 VW Golf saying "Camshaft Position Sensor", the car will not start. Is it as easy as just replacing it or am I in a world of hurt? I know where it is and can replace it myself.

No, that doesn't automattically mean the sensor is at fault. The code is reporting a specific set of circumstances, related to the cam sensor. That may or may not mean a bad sensor. The problem could be other things like the related wiring, computer or even a timing belt. That's why each code has a specific flow chart to follow and eliminate all possibilities.

Reply to Hammer Time's Post: The computer I used only gave me the code. I don't know about the flow chart. I'll replace it (since I already bought one) and re-post if that doesn't work. Thank you for the prompt reply and excellent advise.
