Ford '95 T-Bird Engine Dies

Sent to Car Experts August 24, 2005 10:36 a.m.

I have a 1995 Ford T-Bird that all of a sudden will just shut down while driving or while idling. Two weeks ago the engine would just shut down while driving then automatically just come back on. Now she'll shut down & I'm stuck on the side of the road for @20 minutes. Or she'll just stall out at a stop light & will start right up or I can't start it for 20 minutes. It does it now when I just start car & go 5 blocks, or if I'm driving for a while. It does it with A/C on or off.
I had it at GoodYear for 2 days: Changed fuel filter-doesn't work, change a vacuum hose-doesn't work, put on Diagnostic machine & reads NO ERRORS. I'm still stalling out so it has been at Ford Dealership for 3 days now with no results!!!!
Is it the main computer that runs the car--would that just shut down the engine & make it hard to restart?? HELP!!!!!!!!!!

You need to first test a few functions during the failure.

1) Test for spark at the plug end of the wire using a spark tester.
2) Test for injecter pulse using a small bulb called a noid light.
3) Use a fuel pressure gauge to test for correct fuel pressure.

Once you have determined which of these functions has dropped out,
you will know which system is having the problem.

Could it at all be the main computer & that's why there's no readings on diagnostic & would that shut down the engine?????
Thank you for your help.

I've given you the procedure that has to be used to isolate the problem. Guessing won't help at all if you don't know what the symptoms are. I know it's very inconvenient but there is no crystal ball that tells us what the problem it. we need to know the symptoms, meaning the results from the tests, to be able to tell you anything.

I understand your pain but there is a systematic way to find these things and the dealer already knows how. I didn't know if you were going to try this yourself so I gave you the procedure to start diagnosing the problem. Let the dealer do their job. they know how to find the problem. I'm sure the issue is the car is not failing while they have it.

The best Ford Dealer came up with thru all their diagnosis is they 95% thinking it is the Staten Module that would cost me $600 with no guarantee that this will definetley be the solution.
I do thank you for your help, but everyone & I mean everyone, unless you can suggest someone else, can not find the problem. The car doesn't stall out for them while they have it no matter if they leave it running all day or if they're make short trips around town. So I could be spending $600 and the car might stall out again after that.

Ford had it for 3 days & as soon as I picked it up & went @6miles, she stall out but started right up. Next day driving home from work, she stalled out at a stop sign & did not start for @15minutes. Cop & 2 men had to push me to side of road.
Thanks anyway.

That's the problem we have all the time. You can't fix what isn't broken. Unless it is failing when they have it, everything will test good. They just don't want to invest the time it would take to find the problem and drive it until it happens.
