Sent to Car Experts August 18, 2005 9:30 p.m.

i have a 1988 nissan stanza, the other day after starting it i pressed the clutch down to shift in reverse i felt a crunching feel then a breaking noise, now the clutch presses all the way down to the floor with no resistance, the car will start but cant shift into gear, there is no no noticeable damage around pedal, and when i press the pedal all the way a silver cable that runs into hood area moves up at the very end but still no resistance

If it's a cable, it's not hard to change. You just have to be a bit of a contortionist to get up under the dash. The cable on the other have nay not be readily available, even from the dealer. You'll have to make some calls to find out. The actual labor time to replace one is probably about an hout to an hour and a half. The cable should be under $75, probabbly under $50

I don't have anything published but it's pretty cut and dry. Disconnect it at both end and feed it through the firewall.
