auto trans problem
Sent to Car Experts August 16 07:33 PM

i have a 93 nissan sentrs with 8500 miles,1.6 with ac and an RL4FO3A auto tranny. The car rides and shifts great when cold. when warm the shift from 1st to 2nd gets dragged out and no 2nd to 3rd shift. as the car stays in 2nd and i let off the gas she act as in neutral if i shift it to 2 then i have compression braking. when car cools its fine again. Ive changed the fluid several times and this did not make a difference.also iknow when she will act up if driving on the road because the converter will lockup and she wont come out of 4th and will stall the car unless i manually shift to 3 or 2 then im back to a lousy 1st to 2nd and she stays there. any ideas? or point me in the right direction? thanks for any help.

What about your engine coolant? Have you had that changed recently or do you have enough in the radiator? The transmission fluid line runs through the radiator so that the fluid can be cooled. If that is not the problem then the cheap and easy way to solve the problem is to install an external transmission cooler that people use for towing purposes. Apparently the low amount of miles and the age of the car is what is causing your transmission to prematurely overheat.
