Question

Drive train vibration in 1991 Toyota Previa all-trac

Sent to Car Experts August 16, 2005 7:20 p.m.

I have a 1991 Toyota Previa, all wheel drive van. recently the car has developed a bad vibration that feels like it is in the drivetrain of the car. It is most noticable at highway speeds, but even at lower speeds when the tachometer goes over 4,000rpm. Driving on the highway at 75-80mph, and again above 4,000rpm the vibration gets strongest and the engine noise increases. I can feel the vibration in the heart of the car, as well as the stick shift, stearing wheel etc. I have never felt this in the car before and the only thing that has been done to the car recently is that I had new tires put on the car a week ago.
Please help,
Thanks, Brad

ACCEPTED Check Mark

If it started at the time it is probably tire out of round, not mounted straight, or still out of balance. They don’t balance them for but 65 – 70 MPH. I would return it and make them check these items.

Hope this helps

Thank you,

Hello Hogman,
Thanks for answering my question about the vibration problem. What about tires on the front being of a different size than the tires on the back?
How can this affect the car and drive train?

Thanks again,
Brad
